Songs
MEA CULPA, NOSTRA CULPA

My soul grieves
My hope in Mankind fades away
The Earth, wronged and sorrowful,
despairs.
In the fields, flowers wither
crops bare no fruit
Even the morning sun
pales as if announcing
the final judgement
My soul grieves...

REQUIEM AETERNAM AND KYRIE

Grant them eternal rest, O Lord:
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
A hymn, O God, becometh Thee in Sion;
and a vow shall be paid to Thee in Jerusalem

Hear my prayer
to Thee all flesh shall come.

Grant them eternal rest, O Lord:
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
A hymn, O God, becometh Thee in Sion;
and a vow shall be paid to Thee in Jerusalem

Lord, have mercy upon us
Christ, have mercy upon us
Lord, have mercy upon us

Kyrie eleison.
Christe eleison.
Kyrie, eleison.

DIES IRAE

Dies Irae

Rise up! The time has come
to be held to account for our sins

This day, this day of wrath
Shall consume the world in ashes,
as David prophesised with the Sibyl.
How great a terror there will be
when the Judge shall come
who will thresh out everything thoroughly!

The trumpet, scattering a wondrous sound
through the tombs of every land,
will gather all before the throne.

Death and nature shall stand amazed
when creation rises again
to answer to the Judge

Rise up...

Liber Scriptus

A written book be brought forth
Which contains everything
for which the world shall be judged.

And so when the Judge takes his seat
whatever is hidden shall be made manifest,
nothing shall remain unavenged.

What shall I, a wretch, say then?
Whom shall I ask to plead for me,
When scarcely the righteous shall be safe?

Recordare

How could I remind you O Lord,
that for my soul you descended to earth
Your infinite love would not forsake me
It is of this I would still remind you.

Recall, merciful Jesus,
that I was the reason for Thy journey:
do not destroy me on that day.
Seeking me, you sank down wearily.
Thou didst redeem me, having endured the Cross:
let not such great pain have been in vain.

Just Judge of vengeance,
give me the gift of redemption
on the day of reckoning.

Implacable judge of justice
grant me the virtue
of your forgiveness
before pronouncing your final sentence

How could I...

Ingemisco

    Separate me from the goats
    place me among the sheep
that I, forever, may be happy
    at your right hand

I groan as one guilty,
And my face reddens with guilt;
Spare the supplicant, O God.

My prayers are not worthy
but Thou, O good one, show mercy,
lest I burn in everlasting fire.

Give me a place among the sheep,
and separate me from the goats,
placing me on Thy right hand.

Thou who didst absolve Mary [Magdalene]
and hear the prayer of the thief,
hast given me hope too.

Confutatis

When the damned are confounded
and consigned to keen flames,
call me with the blessed.

I pray, supplicant and kneeling,
a heart as contrite as ashes:
take Thou my ending into Thy care.

Lacrymosa

That day is one of weeping
on which shall rise again from the ashes
the guilty man, to be judged.
Therefore spare this one, O God,
merciful Lord Jesus.

ALABANZA

Earth, Mother of all,
the strong foundation,
I shall sing...

Earth, that gives us life,
hear my praise.
I shall sing

Whoever upon her sacred ground has ever walked
or anything that moves in the sea
or flies in the air; she, with her treasure store
is the one that feeds and nourishes all

(from Homer Hymns)

§

Foolish mankind
What have you done to the earth?

Where are the rich forests,
the limpid streams,
the clear blue seas?

You have truncated the life
of that tree that
proudly came out of the soil.

You have cleared mountains all over
and majestic rivers
are reduced to mud and silt.

Even the air, which is life
for all beings,
is now contaminated.

Foolish mankind…

§

What are you doing, wicked Man?
You are killing the earth
as if it was
of no consequence to you.

Nothing remains on the bare hills
that were once luxuriant forests

Our soil is dying
Just as men, each day, everywhere
are killing each other.

And now, as we weep,
Punishment from Heaven
is surely arriving

§

  Dear God
Neither the sun nor the stars in the sky
   Are guilty of these events
    Mankind with its greed
    Is wholly responsible

We are uniquely guilty
With our unbounded avarice,
Nothing in nature is meant
to make the world suffer in this way.

I wish my eyes could see no more…but
still they can
I wish I could no longer think, but I’m even
more aware
I wish I could fall asleep for all eternity…
    But eternally awake I remain…

Where are the rich forests
The teeming oceans
The limpid streams
Where I might quench my thirst

Thirst of fury at mankind
That has poisoned even the air that we
breathe

Rivers overflow
Sweeping away everything,
The precious harvest
Buried in mud

Fields, cattle,
Women, children, homes,
Everything… destroyed…

I wish I could fall asleep for all eternity…

(from ideas and writings of Peter Bunyard)

SANCTUS

Holy, holy, holy
Lord God of Sabaoth.

Heaven and Earth are full of Thy glory.
Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he that cometh in the name
of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

May your light of love and wisdom
shine in our minds and souls
that we may all inhabit the Earth
in peace and harmony

AGNUS DEI

O lamb of God,
that takes away the sins of the world;
grant them rest.

O lamb of God,
that takes away the sins of the world;
grant them eternal rest.

LUX ETERNA

Let everlasting light shine on them.
O Lord, with Thy saints forever:
for Thou art merciful.

Grant them eternal rest.
O Lord, and let everlasting light shine upon them, merciful God.

LIBERA ME

Deliver me, O Lord, from eternal death
In that awful day when the heavens and Earth shall be moved:
when Thou shalt come to judge the world by fire.

I am seized with trembling and I fear the time
when the trial shall approach, and the wrath shall come;
when the heavens and the Earth shall be moved.

A day of wrath, that day of calamity
and woe, a great day and bitter indeed.

Grant them eternal rest, O Lord,
and may light perpetual shine upon them.

Rest in peace. Amen.

ESPERANZA

Let the children play
Let them dance among flowers
Skipping happily in the grass
Better time will dawn…

For my song, grant my heart
a caring and loving muse
I will always praise you in my song
and will hope for your blessings

I have no other way
than to remain optimistic
and to believe that reason
will out

Despite all that is wrong with man’s actions
We must find forgiveness in our hearts
For the journey is long
and we must earn the Kingdom of Heaven.

It is not too late for humanity,
we can still inhabit the Earth
in peace and harmony.

Amen…
